Attention Chrome fans: Chrome OS will be getting a new look soon.

A current Google Chromium OS project named Athena will eventually become the new Chrome OS user experience, according to screenshots Google employee François Beaufort shared on Google+.

The new design has a stacked windows interface similar to the Chrome browser’s tabs on Android. Although the team is currently working on it, Beaufort shared instructions for people who want to take a look at the new design in the Chromium source code. Chromium is the open source project through which Google shares all of its Chrome development.

Traces of Athena and a new interface popped up in the Chromium source code in mid-June, although Google didn’t publicly say anything about the project until now.
