Google’s project to put 3D mapping tech inside your smartphone is launching abroad.
Today the company announced plans to sell its $512 Project Tango tablet development kits in 12 additional countries this month, starting with South Korea and Canada. By August 26, the dev kit will also go on sale in Denmark, Finland, France, Germany, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Sweden, Switzerland, and the United Kingdom, Google said. It’s been available in the U.S. since July 2014.

Then, in January, Tango spun out. At the time, Google vaguely committed to continue supporting the project — and we’ve heard very little about Tango since. Although today’s launch will likely drive additional attention to Tango, Google remains mum on the project’s future.
Meanwhile, Google’s other ambitious smartphone side project, Project Ara, continues to draw hype for its plan to develop modular smartphones.
