The announcement comes on the heels of cross-platform food-ordering service ChowNow’s recent integration with Google Wallet. The mobile wallet is also accepted by Shopgate, another e-commerce payments platform.
For Shopify, a platform that services merchants online and offline with customer check-out systems, the addition of Google Wallet was a no-brainer. As mobile commerce grows, Shopify will need to be able to offer a simple in-app payment solution that keeps buyers from abandoning their shopping cart. To do that, the company needs to offer whatever payment platform its consumers are registered with. So far, Shopify already accepted PayPal, and it’s working on adding Apple Pay.
