HTC is about to get back into the tablet game.

After focusing on smartphones for the past few years, HTC’s long-rumored Nexus 9 tablet is expected to debut soon. The Wall Street Journal corroborates past reports of Google and HTC working together on the new Nexus tablet, and sources tell the Verge that the device is apparently coming soon.

Google will likely show off the Nexus 9 when it officially launches the next version of Android, currently nicknamed Android L. That could happen by the end of the month, according to the most recent rumors.

The Nexus 9 tablet would join the Samsung-made Nexus 10 and the Asus-built Nexus 7, and it would mark the first tablet for HTC after its ill-fitted Flyer from several years ago. The device will reportedly be powered by Nvidia’s new K1 mobile processor. We also caught a potential glimpse of its design back in June (spoiler, it looks like every other Android tablet).

If true, Google’s decision to go with HTC for the Nexus 9 could be viewed as a slight to Samsung, whose Android device empire is getting bigger every day.
