Hangouts for Android will add video messaging feature that’s been on iOS version for months

A new update for Google’s Hangouts for Android will include the video messaging feature that was added to the iOS version of the app earlier this year.

Version 11 of Hangouts hasn’t been released yet, but 9to5Google spotted a new APK on the web that indicates the feature is on its way. If you’re feeling particularly antsy, you can grab that APK and use it to try to activate the feature, at least in theory, though 9to5ers noted that they have not been able to get it to work yet.

On the iOS version, users can send video messages via Hangouts the same way they can send photos, by tapping a button on the bottom bar. However, it seems the initial version on Android will only allow one-minute videos, compared to the two-minute videos on iOS.
