Deep Silver announced today that the open-world, first-person shooter Homefront: The Revolution debuts on May 17 in North America. The company has started a closed beta test.
It’s one of the much-awaited new games in the increasingly small — but highly lucrative — triple-A shooter market. This new Homefront comes out on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and PC. It is rated mature. The title has both single-player and cooperative (four-player online) play. Its developer is Dambusters Studios. It debuts May 20 outside of North America.

Spots are limited, and the only way to gain access is through acquiring an Xbox One Beta Token. Deep Silver and Microsoft plan on running a number of promotions over the coming weeks that will offer the opportunity to claim a token and take part in the beta.
The closed beta gives players a first look at the occupied Yellow Zone in Philadelphia. Homefront: The Revolution takes place in 2029, where the United States is in the fourth year of the hostile occupation by North Korea. Citizens are under close scrutiny in the wasteland of the Yellow Zone, and they must blend in until seizing the perfect moment to strike.

You are part of a Resistance Cell that can inspire a rebellion and turn the occupation into an uprising. Basically, it’s a new American Revolution, taking place again in the future as oppressed civilians take up the fight. The enemy has the advantage in superior technology, firepower, heavy armor, and air support. You have to hide in plain sight and engage in guerrilla warfare, using ambush, sabotage, infiltration, and deception. The Yellow Zone, with its Orwellian-style surveillance, is one of multiple landscapes in the game. Red Zones are war-ravaged wastelands, while Green Zones are command centers where Korean KPA occupiers rule.
