If you recently updated MacOS to the new Catalina update, you’ll notice many apps asking permissions for notifications and folder access. This is part of the new security changes that come with the update.

Google Meet, formerly known as Google Hangouts, will ask you to grant permissions for screen recording if you try to present your screen. If you deny it permissions, you won’t be able to screen share – nor will it ask you again to grant permissions. This setting is not found anywhere in Chrome, but rather in Apple’s System Preferences under Security and Privacy. You will have to click on Screen Recording and check the Google Chrome option as shown in this thread and the image below:

You will then have to quit Chrome and restart.
