Hewlett-Packard is launching 15 new printers for graphics professionals, office workers, and high-end consumers today.
The new products show that HP, the world’s largest printer maker, is still trying to innovate in a mature market, and it is leading the charge with high-end printing services, as well as secure printing in an age of hackers, corporate spies, and other privacy threats.
At an event in Lisbon, Portugal, the company is unveiling its printers under the PageWide (professional graphics), OfficeJet Pro (officer worker), and LaserJet (business and consumer) brand names. It is also launching a new secure managed print service. HP says the printers will be the best in class when it comes to cost of ownership, speeds, energy efficiency, security, management, and compact size.
“ We’re reinventing printing for every business – large or small,” said Enrique Lores, president of the imaging and printing group at HP, in a statement. “Traditionally, vendors have spoken about ‘Good, Better, Best’ where most customers have to compromise, but today we are promising ‘Best, Best, Best’ allowing our customers to determine the right print solution for their business, not their budget.”
The HP PageWide large-format printers have already delivered more than 140 billion digital pages. Next year, HP will be launching a new portfolio of A3 single-function and multifunction printers ranging in price from $500 to $2,800.
“HP PageWide printers have exceeded our expectations in terms of quality and speed and enabled us to be more productive in the way work,” said Tim Larson, design principal at design firm DownStream, in a statement. “We operate in a demanding environment and are in the business of visual design, so how things look on paper is important — HP is keeping up with us.”
The OfficeJet Pro families of office printers are aimed at offering color printing at 50 percent lower cost per page than laser printers. The 8000 series is the newest on the block, with features such as manageability, security, and seamless mobile printing. They will sell for $130 to $200.
The new LaserJet printers focus on print-shop quality color documents and low-cost black-and-white printing. The new printers include Original HP Toner cartridges with JetIntelligence technology that enables leaner, faster, and smarter print options. The LaserJet printers will sell from $490 to $550.
For the privacy-minded, the new Secure Managed Print Service lets corporations protect their secrets by adding security to every printer in the enterprise with a “defense-in-depth” approach. Security software manages the whole fleet of printers and detects any threats.
