HTC’s new One M9 will launch in the U.S. on April 10

Today HTC announced that its new One M9 smartphone will launch in the U.S. on April 10 from select retailers, and will eventually be available on all U.S. carriers.

HTC said in a YouTube webcast today that the new phone would launch in the U.S. and then would become available in the rest of the world later this year.

The Taiwanese phone maker didn’t name the retailers that would sell the One M9 out of the gate.

The launch arrives a little over two weeks after the M9 was officially revealed at Mobile World Congress in Barcelona, Spain. At the time we learned that that the device would be available in the U.S. in early spring on AT&T, Sprint, T-Mobile, and Verizon.

We also learned today that HTC plans to offer an extensive warranty program: it’ll replace your One M9 smartphone if it falls “onto the pavement or into a toilet” or even if you change carriers. And that includes phones that have been jailbroken, surprisingly enough.

In response to a viewer’s question about reports that the M9 runs significantly hotter than other phones, Jason MacKenzie, president of HTC America, said, “All I’m going to say is we’re not going to launch a phone with a heating problem. We’re going to launch a phone when it’s ready.”

Interestingly, HTC’s event was scheduled to occur an hour before T-Mobile’s latest “uncarrier” event.
