IFTTT announces Nike+ Channel for automating fitness activity

Want to log and share your fitness activity with greater ease? Thanks to the new Nike+ Channel on IFTTT just announced today, you can.

Specifically, you can log or share tasks automatically from your Nike+ Running or Nike+ FuelBand apps. While you can already share when you’re working on your fitness with these apps, the IFTTT integration lets you set up specific recipes for how and when to share your stats. For instance, with IFTTT you can now log activity recorded in these apps in a Google Drive spreadsheet. Or you can make it so your Philips Hue lights switch to green when you’ve reached your activity goals for the day.

At the moment, many health and fitness tracker apps aren’t all that integrated with external services. This makes their practical use limited outside the apps themselves. However, by being able to use your data outside the apps, the possibilities are limitless. At the very least, the IFTTT integration should act as a nice  tool until Apple’s Health app and HealthKit platform for iOS 8 and Google Fit launch.

IFTTT has several recipe ideas on its site right now to get fitness lovers started. For instance, you can tweet whenever you beat your weekly Nike+ Runs goal. Or you can get an iOS notification when you beat your Daily Pace Goal. You can even opt to receive an email summarizing your activity after reaching your Weekly NikeFuel Goal.

Of course, this isn’t the first time the if-this-then-that provider has partnered with external services. Back in April, IFTTT announced a deal with Life360, an app for making family management easier.
