iHeartRadio comes to Xbox One and Xbox 360 with a motion and voice-sensing app

Another popular music streaming service should soon make its home game-console debut.

Today, iHeart Radio is launching on the Xbox One and Xbox 360, bringing its popular streaming music service to a game platform for the first time. The company has worked to expand integrations beyond computers and mobile devices to other stream-friendly devices such as Roku, Android Wear, and Amazon Echo recently, but moving to game consoles allows it to reach the more than 80 million Xbox users worldwide.

The iHeartRadio app is available now on Xbox Live for both Xbox One and Xbox 360.

The team at iHeartRadio designed the app exclusively for the Xbox platform (meaning it won’t be on Sony’s PlayStation system). The Xbox One version caters to the console’s specialized functions, including voice support through the console’s Kinect motion and sound sensor, along with screen placement via the Snap feature for Xbox One. Through Kinect, users can wave their hands to scroll through items and select playlists.

The new app supports iHeartRadio staples such as custom stations, and its “For You” recommended playlists are built on users’ listening habits in this app. Artist profiles and lyrics can also be accessed through it.

People want to have their music and favorite radio stations available 24/7 everywhere they are, regardless of the device or circumstance,” Chris Williams, the chief product officer for iHeartRadio told GamesBeat, in a statement. “The sheer volume of connected platforms hitting the market that fulfill this desire has exploded and iHeartRadio is committed to being available on every meaningful device that music and radio fans want to adopt.”
