The troubled Steve Jobs biopic has released its first teaser trailer, and one can easily imagine that it will soon be triggering gag reflexes across executive suites at Apple HQ.
First of all, it’s based on the authorized biography penned by Walter Isaacson, a tome which in recent months we have come to learn that Apple executives who were close to Jobs pretty much despise.
Second, the screenplay was written by Aaron Sorkin, who demonstrated his ability to take the darkest view of technology and entrepreneurs in his screenplay for The Social Network, the faux biography of Mark Zuckerberg that painted the Facebook cofounder as a friendless, misogynistic, backstabbing jerk.
Now, throw in the fact that after actor Christian Bale dropped out of the movie, he was replaced by Michael Fassbender, who we see in the trailer wearing the obligatory black turtleneck and circular glasses, but otherwise looking nothing like Jobs.

Of course, if the movie, directed by Danny Boyle, nails everything else, his look may not matter. But the trailer itself sounds grim, with Fassbender-as-Jobs making grandiose statements about changing the world and even raising his voice.
“You can’t write code. You’re not an engineer. What do you do?” asks Seth Rogen, who plays Woz, with mucho gravitas, as if the fate of humanity rides on the answer.
“I sat in the garage and invented the future,” Fassbender-cum-Jobs shouts. “Because artists lead and hacks ask for a show of hands!!!!”
Ho-kay. Don’t expect a screening at Apple HQ anytime soon.
Will it at least be better than the Ashton Kutcher bio-dud? You’ll have to wait until October 9 to find out!
