Activision has released a new video describing the single-player campaign for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, the latest installment in the annual blockbuster series that has generated more than $15 billion in sales in the past 13 years.

This year’s title from Activision’s Infinity Ward studio has taken more risks with its story than ever (like casting face-punching factory Conor McGregor), thanks to the sci-fi setting where humanity has populated the solar system. The problem is that the extraterrestrial colonies are feeling slighted by Earth, and they’re rising in rebellion. They launch a sneak attack that takes out much of Earth’s defenses, and your mission as Captain Nick Reyes is to take the fight back to the the bad guys, the Settlement Defense Fund.

In this video, you get more glimpses of the story. Reyes finds that, after the SDF’s surprise attack, he is now in command of one of the last two surviving space battleships, the Retribution. The Earth’s bases in Geneva and on the moon have been taken out. Reyes is up against some kind of crazy freedom fighter leader.

“Our world is just beginning,” says the villain Admiral Kotch (played by Game of Thrones actor Kit Harington) from the Settlement Defense Fund. “Theirs is dying. It is not enough to break free. We will break that.”

Reyes has the command of a capital ship and Jackal space fighters, but he’s clearly an infantry grunt and a special operations pilot who wants to be involved in a direct assault. One soldier says his place as captain is on the bridge, but Reyes says, “Not this captain. Not today.”

Kotch is part of the SDF splinter group of insurgents who broke from the United Nations Space Alliance during a war of secession. Earth now relies on the colonies for resources, and it is also mining asteroids for them. The SDF has become a fascist power, controlled by brutal militant radicals. They seek to put a stranglehold on the countries of Earth.

We see the bad guys in space suits on a distant planet, attacking the Earth’s forces. Activision promises a grand scale of warfare with unforgettable characters, rich emotional arcs, and epic settings with plenty of familiar Call of Duty action.

Infinite Warfare also combines all of its combat possibilities into a seamless experience. It’s not quite an open world, but it gives players more agency than before.

If you preorder the game, you’ll get the Zombies in Spaceland pack and the Terminal bonus multiplayer map. The open beta for the game begins on October 11. You can also get access to the multiplayer beta on October 14 on PlayStation 4.
