New apps for iOS 8: Asana, Box, Evernote, Google Maps, OneNote, Storehouse

With new smartphones come new apps. And several companies have been pushing out updates to their iOS apps ahead of the release of Apple’s iOS 8 mobile operating system.

Asana

The latest version of the iOS app for Asana’s software, which helps teams of employees manage tasks, lets users create new tasks from apps other than Asana. Tasks marked for today will show up in Notification Center. And now it’s easier to delete tasks. All you have to do is tap the trash can for a task.

Now, thanks to the new iOS App Extensions feature from Apple, you can pull up Box content from other apps, like iWork, according to a blog post today from Box chief executive Aaron Levie.

“This is a bellwether moment for openness in the enterprise,” Levie wrote. “With the App Store, Apple has created a thriving ecosystem of apps that improve and define our personal and work lives. Now, Apple is pushing the boundaries of interoperability by allowing unprecedented communication between these apps.”

Now you can clip web pages, photos, and documents right into Evernote, according to a company blog post today. You can even start a fresh note from the Notification Center with iOS 8.

And the company is shipping a nifty feature for paying customers: Related Notes. “As you type or view a note, Evernote searches through your account to find other notes in your account that might be related to the work you’re doing,” Evernote VP of marketing Andrew Sinkov wrote in the blog post. “These notes appear below the note in the Related Notes section. It’s a great way to rediscover useful content that provides context for work projects or scheduled meetings.”

It’s unclear what exactly Google was able to work into Google Maps in its latest release, but the new version, 3.2.1, is “optimized for iOS 8,” according to a description on iTunes Preview. So try it out and let us know what you find.

Now it’s possible to bring websites, photos, and file attachments into OneNote even when you’re using other apps.

The latest edition of the photoblogging app simplifies the process of selecting photos to use from albums that already exist on your iOS device. And the app generally looks “prettier and faster all over,” a spokeswoman wrote in an email to VentureBeat.
