Kickstarter will now let your friends tell you your idea sucks with Project Preview

Bro, no one is going to fund your Mr. Potatohead iPad case. There, I said it.

Kickstarter has just launched a new feature to let you get feedback (like the gem above) from your friends before you submit your Kickstarter project to the Kickstarter gods.

Called Project Preview, this feature will let you create a preview link for your trusted friends, family, or other advisors. Those folks can see exactly what your submitted project will look like, and they can leave feedback for you with a simple form field.

Once the project launches, all those feedback notes magically disappear.

Kickstarter says the feedback can help project creators to better prepare their products for the harsh realities of the real-world marketplace, to craft a better pitch video, and to create better rewards for potential backers.

“In times like these, it’s always good to turn to your trusted friends,” writes Kickstarter editorial director Michael McGregor in the company’s announcement.

“Sharing your project with friends before you launch is one of the best ways to get feedback. We’ve heard it time and time again from creators, and we know it from our own experience.”

Kickstarter was founded in 2009 and is based in New York City. The company raised $10 million in a single round of institutional funding in 2011.
