Automated video editing service Magisto has launched an Android app targeted at consumers who want to create fun videos without much hassle, the company announced Tuesday.

Those key additions have created a strong response, with more than 1 million users now signed up for the service. Now the company is turning its attention to Android, which has an incredible number of users to potentially attract.
Magisto’s app automates the video editing process, making it possible for people to upload video clips and let the service do the work of cutting the video. Magisto scans clips for noteworthy action and packages it with tricks like transitions and splitscreens. Then users simply give the video a title and pick a soundtrack, and the video is ready to share on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, or e-mail.

The new app works with Android versions 2.3.3 and above. Magisto actually worked with Google so users running Jelly Bean (Android 4.1) will have the app optimized for high-definition video in the next update.
“We wanted to wait for the right opportunity to launch on Android,” Magisto CEO Oren Boiman told me. “Android took longer to develop than iOS, but it has better opportunities for integration.” One such integration, he said, is the ability to launch Magisto’s app from the Android gallery.
Magisto offers two tiers of service: free and premium. The free version keeps users to a 10-clip, 10-minute upload limit. The premium service allows a 25-clip, 25-minute upload limit and unlimited movie downloads for either $4.99 per month or $17.99 per year. Casual users can also pay for a one-time movie download for $.99.
New York City and Tel Aviv-based Magisto received $5.5 million in second-round funding about a year ago following an undisclosed first round. Hong Kong investor Li Ka-shing’s Horizon Ventures led the second round, with participation from prior investor Magma Venture Partners.
The Magisto Android app is now available in the Google Play store. Check out the video below for more.
