Ben Huh, the cofounder and CEO of the Cheezburger network of sites, has announced his departure from day-to-day operations. In a post on Medium, Huh discloses that he will remain a member of the company’s board and that Cheezburger’s President and COO Scott Moore will replace him as CEO.

Cheezburger is a series of sites that focus on memes of various types. Some of the more well-known ones include FAIL blog, Know Your Meme, Memebase, and I Can Has Animals. Started in 2007, this Seattle, Wash.-based company had received $71.7 million in funding from venture capitalists like Foundry Group, Madrona Venture Group, SoftBank Capital, and others.

Now, after eight years, Huh and his wife Emily, Cheezburger’s Director of Business Development, are taking an “unscripted adventure.” This comes at a time of transition for Cheezburger, especially when Huh says it’s getting closer to profitability, but it’s also a transition that the team has been preparing for over the past few months.

Huh is an entrepreneur at heart, but has also endured many struggles along the way. He is the cofounder of Circa, a news app that recently announced its closing. Huh has also been rather candid about issues that he’s endured with Cheezburger along the way.
