Microsoft today announced a slew of improvements to its OneNote apps for Android and iOS. In fact, the latter is getting a big change: The iPad and iPhone apps have been merged into one universal app.
Instead of “OneNote for iPad” and “OneNote for iPhone,” there is now just “OneNote” for all iOS devices. Microsoft says it took a lot of “behind the scenes” work to create one universal iOS app that works on both iPad and iPhone.
If you use OneNote for iPad, you will need to delete the app and redownload OneNote from Apple’s App Store. If you use OneNote for iPhone, you just need to update to the latest version. If you use an Android device, today’s update is waiting for you in Google Play as always.
iOS
Because of the merge, some of the recent OneNote updates to iPhone are now available for iPad too. First up, the Today Widget now lets you create new notes, start a list, and access your most recent notes right from the Notification Center.
Speaking of notes, everything you recently edited across all the notebooks open on your iPad are now available in the new Recent Notes view.
To see what part of your content fits on a page, you can now just turn your iPad into landscape mode to see page previews.
Last but not least, the document/whiteboard camera bug has been fixed. All Microsoft had to do was turn off the lens cap and voilà:
Android
While this is clearly a bigger update for iOS, that doesn’t mean Android is being ignored (that’s Windows Phone’s job, zing!). Microsoft said it has added one of the top feature requests: the ability to move or copy pages from one section or notebook to another section or notebook.
To use this feature, head to the page list, tap and hold on the page you would like to move or copy, pick the operation you would like to perform from the menu, and then select the destination section. You can also add a page directly to your Home screen.
Last but not least, the OneNote team says it has “a big update” coming for its Android Wear app, which will soon be able to show your recent notes and tasks on your watch. To try it out early, join the OneNote for Android Beta Program and be patient (Microsoft says the features will be there “in just a few days”).
