Microsoft releases OneDrive update for Windows 10 with Surface Hub, SharePoint support

Microsoft is announcing today the release of a new OneDrive cloud file syncing and sharing app for Windows 10 devices. The app can work on the Surface Hub device, and it also works with the SharePoint team collaboration and content management software.

The new touch-friendly app comes with features that until now were only available through OneDrive on the Web, features like bringing files back from the Recycle Bin, bringing up most recently accessed filed, and perusing files that others have shared with you, Reuben Krippner, director of product management for OneDrive, wrote in a blog post.

OneDrive, once known as SkyDrive, already comes as part of Windows 10 by default — but Microsoft calls that software a sync client, whereas this is a dedicated standalone app that lets you open and edit files from OneDrive even when they’re not synced to your local machine.

More than 300 million devices are now using Windows 10, and OneDrive by itself had more than 250 million users as of November 2014. Competitors include Box, Dropbox, and Google Drive.

The new version of OneDrive is available through the Windows Store.
