Microsoft’s Share Your Idea website lets you vote on new HoloLens projects

Microsoft today announced the launch of a new website called Share Your Idea, where people can go to post and vote on what would be cool to see on the Microsoft HoloLens augmented reality system.

So far the site is desperately in need of contributions, with just 22 submitted so far, including “Virtual Julia Childs,” “Learn a Language,” “Virtual Electronic Medical Record,” and “Fantasy Sports.”

It’s a little bit like Product Hunt and the Show HN function on Hacker News — but the difference here is that Microsoft might very well choose to execute on the best idea on the website.

“Ultimately, the HoloLens team will pick our top three among the most popular ideas and let the community vote on which experience we will actually build and release to the world!” the Microsoft HoloLens team wrote in a blog post today. “We will work to bring your idea to life and show you every step in the journey — and when we’re done, we’ll deliver the source code back to the community.”

Since introducing the product in January, Microsoft has come up with several ideas for the HoloLens, and the company has partnered with NASA, Case Western Reserve University, Volvo, Autodesk, and other institutions to show what’s possible with the system. And of course there’s a development platform. But today’s announcement — which follows reports of layoffs of 60 people on the HoloLens team in Israel — shows that Microsoft clearly wants more app ideas for it.

People can vote on submissions to the site until January 11.
