One of the best-selling games ever made is finally on a Nintendo system, and people rushed the Wii U’s download store to get it.
Minecraft caused a few problems for the Nintendo eShop. After first debuting on PC way back in 2009 (a “finished” version came out in 2011), developer Mojang’s block-building phenomenon is finally out on the Wii U. It debuted early this morning, and people who wanted to get it right as the clock struck midnight encountered difficulties. Gamers on social media were complaining about error codes and server-connection warnings, and the outage-tracking website Down Detector had people reporting problems all through the night and into the early part of the work day.
Since these early troubles, however, the eShop is back to running smoothly — and it seems that most people are able to download Minecraft.

It’s not too surprising Wii U owners are this hungry for Minecraft. The game is enormously popular on every platform it has ever appeared on — although it’s worth noting that Minecraft didn’t cause network issues on Xbox Live or PlayStation Network when it debuted on this systems.
Mojang has sold 21 million copies on PC, and it is almost always the top-selling premium-priced app on iOS and Android. In 2013 and 2014, the console version was one of the top-selling physical games in the United States. Now that gamers who prefer Nintendo hardware are finally getting a chance to join the fun, they are obviously doing so.
