Silicon Valley venture capital firm ComVentures has named Keyur Patel (see Web site profile) as partner, the latest move by the firm which was once focused on the hard-hit telecommunications market.

Patel will invest in digital media, the Internet and Indian companies, and his addition is the latest example of ComVentures is hiring people to help it diversify into other, more promising territory.

ComVentures, which is investing its $300 million sixth fund, has seen turnover recently. In the past year, co-founder Cliff Higgerson, who started the fund in 1987, retired, while Partner Perry Wu left for another firm. The firm added Baris Karadogan as partner in April and Bob Barron as venture partner in March. Last year, ComVentures added two venture partners, an entrepreneur-in-residence and a new partner, Jeb Miller.
