The Nintendo Wii ignited the interest of non-gamers in video games. The same phenomenon is starting to happen in the mobile gaming arena, where non-gamers likely outnumber the gamers in terms who is playing games.  At MobileBeat 2010, we’ll explore what will contribute to the growth of mobile gaming, particularly among non-gamers.

Our “Mobile Gaming: Big ideas for the small screen” breakout session will feature veterans of the mobile gaming business who can discuss whether games can become much bigger on superphones than they are on fast-growing platforms such as Facebook.

Apple has paved the way for both mobile smartphone and tablet gaming with the iPhone and the iPad. Games are the most plentiful app on the platform and they are the bestselling as well. As more superphones and tablets are launched, it makes sense to target games. But these gamers aren’t your typical hardcore console players. What will it take to get this new audience to play mobile games and to stick with them over a long time? What are the next-generation games that will go beyond what has appeared so far?

Our panelists include Randy Breen, chief executive of SGN (pictured, below right); Simon Jeffery, chief publishing officer at Ngmoco (left); Adam Sussman, vice president of publising at EA Mobile, a division of Electronic Arts; and Jen Herman, director of FarmVille mobile at Zynga (pictured at top). I will moderate the panel.
