From its prominent use in 20th century modern art to the mural of favorite bands taped up inside of your high school locker, collage is a great equalizer among the visual arts — one practiced by both expert and amateur alike.

In fact, techniques of the form — the thoughtful assemblage of items such as photos, text clippings, and the like to create an artistic whole – have been used since the invention of paper.

So, it’s little wonder that the art form has firmly taken root in the digital sphere, where image hosting apps and services enjoy rampant popularity. Just look at how frequently user-made collages are posted in sites like Tumblr and Instagram, the latter of which claims a higher number of active users than social networking behemoth Twitter.

One particular standout among collage-focused software is Moldiv, an “all-in-one” photo editor that combines many of the best features from maker JellyBus’ other noteworthy photo apps like PicsPlay Pro, qbro, and HDR FX.

Available free for the iPhone, iPad, and Android, Moldiv lets you quickly create photo collages in poster, photo album, or magazine form, using a large number of basic and premium frames, presets, effects, and more. Cutting out images from photos is as easy as tracing with your fingertip.

According to CNET reviewer Ben Markton, Moldiv does what many other similar apps do, but with “a smoother, easier-to-use interface and layout that succeeds across the board in providing what you really want in a free photo editing app” that “never gets so burdensome with ads or upgrade reminders that you’ll want to turn it off.”

The creative uses for the collage app are many, says JellyBus vice president Junweon Park. “Photos made with Moldiv are frequently posted on blogs because it’s easy to make very polished visuals like a magazine cover with Moldiv’s magazine frames. Also, it’s become popular to compile all photos made with Moldiv into a book format, especially with fashion bloggers, cooking recipe bloggers, and fans of famous stars. ”

The app recently reached a 23 million download landmark since its initial launch in May 2013 and is gaining 30,000 users daily. Park attributes that success to JellyBus’ attentiveness to its customers.

“JellyBus is a user-centric company,” offers Park. “We analyze which functions or upgrades are bought in which order. Based on this data, we improve functions that users feel are inconvenient or we upgrade popular features of the app. We put lots of effort in trying to take care of and understand our users, through Instagram, Facebook, and email. You could say that it’s our secret recipe.”

Looking forward, Park says JellyBus is creating a new photo app with advanced feature depth for professional photo editors and those ready to take the next step in collage or photo creation.

“Since young generations became interested in editing and designing their photos,” Park explains, “there are lots of apps focusing on their needs by providing them with easy and simple functions. However, apps with advanced functions, which are needed for professionals, have been reduced in numbers.”

“We believe that the number of people requiring advanced photo editing features will be increasing as people who love taking photos are increasing. So we are preparing a professional app with powerful features but easy to use.”

Beyond that, JellyBus has its eyes on expanding into video apps, as well. “Our brand is gathering loyal users in the photo category,” says Park. “At the same time, we are doing research related to video. Next year, users will see a video app developed by JellyBus.”
