Musx overhauls its streaming music app, raises $500K

Streaming music service Musx has raised a new $500,000 seed round of funding for growth, the company announced today.

We first discovered Musx this past summer and were impressed with its method for helping you discover new music from friends and other acquaintances.

The app, which is available for free on iOS, focuses on getting you to actually listen to a song to determine if you like it rather than reviewing status or activity updates on other social services. (Because the best way to find new music is to, ya know, hear it. Crazy, huh?) Musx generates playlists based on what your friends are listening to or enjoying.

Today the startup is rolling out a major overhaul for the app, which features a new home screen with a “Play Stream” button to get you listening to music aggregated by friends faster. You’ll also be able to favorite songs as they play so you can return to them later, navigate to other users’ playlists, find music more easily with an improved search tool, and more.

In addition to the funding and iOS app overhaul, Musx has added music industry veteran and Mick Management founder Michael McDonald to its board of advisers.

Founded in 2014, the Washington D.C.-based startup has raised about $800,000 in total funding to date.
