New Windows 10 phones now come with Office Mobile preinstalled

Microsoft today announced that it will now ship Windows 10 phones, such as the Lumia 950, with Office Mobile apps preinstalled.

The announcement gives phones Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook, OneNote, and Skype for Business, according to a blog post today from Office corporate vice president Kirk Koenigsbauer.

The phones of course feature Windows 10 features like the Cortana personal digital assistant, which integrates with Office 365, as well as the Continuum feature for adjusting app presentation based on how devices are used — with an external monitor, in tablet or laptop mode, etc.

This deal could help people decide if they want to go ahead and buy a Windows 10 phone rather than an iOS or Android Phone — even though Windows lags far behind iOS and Android in terms of market share, even in the enterprise.

Also today, Microsoft is announcing updates to Office 2016 for Mac.

Now the OpenDocument Format (ODF) works with Word, Excel, and PowerPoint (this applies to Office 2016 apps for iOS as well), and you can also take and insert screenshots into documents, Koenigsbauer wrote. Word 2016 for Mac in particular now supports custom citations, too.
