Some app developers have huge troves of data about how people use smartphones and tablets, and now one is working with a partner to share some of that information with the world.
Intelligence firm Newzoo has struck a deal with cross-platform push-notification service operator Pushwoosh to get access to data about the kinds of devices people are using. Pushwoosh serves up more than 10 billion notifications per month to 1.2 billion smartphones and tablets in 200 countries. Newzoo will now get to see how those devices break down by brand, model, operating system, and screen size. This should provide keen insights into the $36.9 billion mobile gaming industry in particular.
“We are really excited to start working with Newzoo following months of joint discussions and big-data crunching,” Pushwoosh chief executive Max Konev said. “Its expertise in market intelligence makes Newzoo the perfect partner to help us bring the vast amount of data we have to third-parties.”
Newzoo has put a lot of effort into expanding its data on the mobile market. In April, it agreed to a similar info-sharing deal with the Chinese-intelligence company TalkingData to shine a light on that massive and complicated market. With Pushwoosh in its stable, Newzoo should now have even more accurate looks at how people are spending their time and money when they’re on their iPhones and Androids.

“Every single second [PushWoosh adds] 20 new devices to its reach. Given our expansion into mobile market intelligence with Newzoo Mobile, we are very happy to have them on board as a key data partner,” Newzoo CEO Peter Warman said. “With the mobile hardware data, we aim to introduce smart key-performance indicators on device usage to a world dominated by retail metrics such as units shipped. Our clients are seeking new ways to seize opportunities and prioritize product development and marketing on a global scale. This is an important piece of that puzzle.”
