You can finally start your engines.

Developer Slightly Mad Studios and publisher Bandai Namco have finally announce a launch date for its ambitious racing game Project Cars — May 6 for PC (via Steam) and May 12 for consoles. The studio has stumbled with release dates for the PS4, Xbox One, and PC racer over the past year, most recently moving out of November to avoid being lost in the shuffle and then missing an early 2015 launch due to leave time for polishing. It’s funding comes in part from the developers and its community, which has the demand for a release even higher than a typical game.

Project Cars’s development comes from the team behind Electronic Arts’ Need for Speed Shift. The highly detailed racer brings a huge selection of features with it, many of which came directly from requests by its supporters and community. It boasts an extensive list of tracks and cars, and recent additions include support for virtual reality platforms Oculus Rift and Project Morpheus. It aims to be the biggest racing game on the market.

Putting all of these features in has taken a lot of time. As a clue for how long Slightly Mad has been working on the crowdfunded racer, it was originally announced for the PlayStation 3 and Xbox 360 — those versions have been canceled.
