Virtual reality is the next frontier of gaming, and Oculus Connect is the upcoming event that will school developers on the best practices for conquering that frontier.

Facebook’s Oculus VR revealed today that it will gather with developers in Hollywood on Sept. 19 and Sept. 20 to discuss making stuff for its Rift head-mounted display. The company is holding the event to help third-party studios understand what it takes to make compelling products for virtual reality. This should bolster the software available at or near the launch of the Rift headset, which will likely hit the consumer market later this year or early in 2015.

Facebook spent $2 billion acquiring Oculus VR in March. With that much money already invested, both companies obviously want to get the Rift off to a good start — having solid software at launch will play an important role in that.

“In the last two years, we’ve seen more virtual reality content built than in the last two decades, and that’s a direct result of incredible work by the community,” reads a blog post on VR company’s website. “With virtual reality’s momentum at an all-time high, this is a unique moment for the developer community to come together to take the virtual reality to the next level.”

Developers can fill out the application for Oculus Connect starting July 10 on the event’s website.

Oculus VR promises to host a number of sessions with its engineers and designers explaining the details of how the Rift works. This will include workshops, but Connect will also offer developers the chance to network with others making games for the device.

During the workshops, the company says that Connect attendees will get the first look at the Rift’s newest features and capabilities.
