Microsoft Office for iPad has surpassed 27 million downloads in less than two months, Microsoft’s Julia White shared today at TechEd, the company’s IT and enterprise-focused conference.
Shortly after Microsoft’s Office apps — Word, Excel, etc. — landed on the iPad, they surged in popularity and quickly took over the leaderboard among top free iPad apps. Microsoft held on to the number one spot for more than 20 days straight — an impressive feat to achieve on rival Apple’s app platform.

In April, Microsoft reported 4.4 million premium Office for iPad (non-enterprise) users, Business Insider notes. Judging from these stats, just a small portion of Office for iPad users actually paid for the product; that’s an unsurprising result for a freemium app release.
