OneDrive for iOS updated with PIN code and Touch ID support, ability to sort files and folders

Microsoft today updated its OneDrive app for iOS with new features, including some only available to early adopters of Apple devices and software. You can download the new version now directly from Apple’s App Store.

The first feature, PIN code support, lets you prevent other people who use your device from accidentally making changes to your files. In short, nobody can access your OneDrive app without entering a PIN code first.

For iOS 8 users, Microsoft has gone a step further and leveraged the new Touch ID API: You can now use your fingerprint to sign into the app.

If you’re using the new iPhone 6 or iPhone 6 Plus, you’ll also be happy to learn Microsoft has adjusted OneDrive for iOS to make use of the extra screen real estate. This means you can see more files and folders on screen and have more space for editing your Office documents.

Last but not least, you can now sort your files and folders by name, date, or size in both ascending and descending orders. Given that OneDrive is primarily a tool for storing files, this should have been a feature from the start.

Microsoft also said today that it plans to update OneDrive for Windows Phone next.
