OneFold unveils its cloud-based BigData Warehouse for mobile and Internet of things

OneFold, a cloud-based Silicon Valley startup, is unveiling its first service, dubbed BigData Warehouse, for mobile and Internet of things sources.

OneFold has created a data warehousing technology that sits atop the Google public cloud. It leverages Google’s cloud-based BigQuery technology for better “big data” capabilities compared to Amazon Web Services’ competing RedShift data warehouse. OneFold’s BigData Warehouse is now available as a public beta.

OneFold, based in Menlo Park, Calif., is a product of Peter Relan’s 9+ incubator. Relan, who had a big hand in startups like Crowdstar and OpenFeint, has moved beyond gaming companies to broader types of tech companies. But BigData Warehouse can serve game companies by helping them manage a ton of data coming in from millions of users.

An app with a million users can generate billions of details to track in a database in the course of a year. OneFold says it can convert that data in a matter of hours and make it easy to get answers to database queries quickly.

“We have numerous customers with social networking, education, m-commerce, and utility mobile apps that are screaming for a big data warehouse technology to bring together their disparate data into a single warehouse in the cloud and let them query it using the most powerful query tool in the world, SQL,” OneFold founder and chief executive Uday Sandhar said in a statement.

BigData Warehouse can sift through terabytes of semi-structured JSON and NoSQL data from mobile and Internet-of-things sources. It unifies this data in one, high-performance, easy-to-query data warehouse in the cloud, and it taps Google’s BigQuery, which is ideal for dealing with semi-structured data streams.

Relan, founder of the 9+ incubator program and a former Oracle executive, said in a statement, “Big Data consists of semi-structured, complex data streams from mobile apps and Internet of things. With OneFold’s BigData Warehouse technology, you get to use SQL to get analytics and answers at a fraction of the cost and time engineers would spend in coding. Nothing beats BigData Warehouse in price-performance-scale, and you get to easily ask any question across all your disparate data sources.”

The product can convert terabytes of JSON data in hours from Mongo, MixPanel, Flurry, MySQL (via JSON conversion), Parse, or Stripe into columnar tables for high performance sub-minute SQL querying over billions of records.

Jason Citron, chief executive of game startup Hammer & Chisel said in a statement, “OneFold’s three big advantages are: One, it easily unifies all my JSON data into a single data warehouse in less than a day. Doing the data munging is an enormous hassle. Two, It gives the power of SQL querying across my semi-structured data including joining the disparate data sources. SQL is easy to use. I can generate new queries in minutes. Three, the performance is awesome: Queries return in under 30 seconds.”

With the public beta program, OneFold is offering a free trial of its technology.
