Removing spam from Pinterest is apparently a heck of a lot of fun.
A new video about the San Francisco company, whose web and mobile apps let people pin pictures and other content to virtual, shareable boards, shows the members of Pinterest’s “Black Ops” spam-fighting team controlling good-guy robots that counter robots sprinkling porn and other unwanted content on Pinterest.
It’s highly dramatized, and it probably cost a lot of money — Pinterest is currently attempting to raise $500 million on a $11 billion valuation, according to one report this week — but it’s sweet enough to attract the attention of science fiction fans who happen to be great engineers.
Pinterest has made considerable inroads when it comes to fighting spam. “We can dismantle entire attacks in milliseconds, whereas 12 months ago it would have taken us four hours to a day,” Black Ops team manager Marty Weiner wrote in a blog post today. But the company clearly wants to go further.
If nothing else, the video is worth watching, to see how badly Pinterest wants more good talent.
