Sony’s dominance continues.
PlayStation 4 outsold its competition at physical retailers in the United States, Sony Interactive Entertainment has confirmed to GamesBeat. The NPD Group, which tracks this sales data, reported this information directly to Sony. This chains together a winning streak for the PS4 over Xbox One and Wii U that extends all the way back to November 2015 — Halo 5 helped Microsoft’s device win October 2015. This keeps Sony in a strong position in the console segment of the $99.6 billion worldwide gaming industry.

June is the start of a slow period for game sales, as fewer new releases debut during the summer months. On top of that, both Sony and Microsoft confirmed they are working on updated versions of their systems that are far more powerful. This could convince some stragglers to hold off on purchasing a new box until those systems hit the market. The Xbox One Scropio is coming at the end of 2017, and it will focus on 4K gaming. Sony hasn’t provided any details about its PS4 Neo other than the fact that it exists.

That GPS-powered location-based game puts the titular pocket monsters in the real world using augmented reality, and it has shot to the top of the mobile grossing charts faster than any other app ever. This could distract gamers from spending their cash on more traditional game releases.
