The Destiny beta test starts today on PlayStation platforms, but an issue with Sony’s online infrastructure might cause some issues.

PlayStation Network is suffering intermittent connection problems according to the service’s support website. This is different from Sony’s typical scheduled maintenance that regularly causes PSN to go offline for a few hours every couple of weeks. Developer Bungie is launching the beta for its sci-fi shooter Destiny later today on PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 3, and the anticipation for that is could be overburdening PSN.

“The PlayStation Network is currently experiencing high volume and users may experience issues when connecting to the service,” reads a post on Sony’s support forum. “We will update you with any changes that may occur in regards to this issue. Thank you for your patience.”

We’ve asked Sony for more details and whether it expects to resolve the problems quickly. We’ll update this post with any new information.

Destiny’s beta started at 10 a.m. Pacific today. Bungie gave away thousands of codes, and anyone who preordered will also get access. That means that plenty of people will likely spend much of today trying to get into the test.
