Postmates inks delivery deal with Walgreens to create an on-demand drugstore

Postmates has certainly been on a roll in terms of forming relationships with major retailers and merchants. And today is not going to be any different as the on-demand delivery service has struck another partnership, this time with Walgreens and its subsidiary Duane Reade. You can now request a courier pick-up health and wellness, beauty, and household items right from your mobile device.

This is the first time that Walgreens has dived into the deep end of the on-demand economy, but certainly not the first for Postmates. The company already works with Starbucks, Chipotle, McDonald’s, Apple, Etsy, and 7-Eleven, so the addition of a national pharmacy and convenience store certainly gives it more of a well-rounded arsenal to appeal to practically everything one would need quickly.

Starting today, 600 Walgreens and Duane Reade stores within the 30 markets currently serviced by Postmates can be ordered from. For a limited time, customers will be charged a flat delivery fee of $4.99 per order.

“We’re a customer-led company that aims to help remove friction and make the experience as simple as possible,” says Walgreen’s Director of Mobile Innovation Joe Rago. “For us, on-demand delivery services are another way we’re supporting customers’ ability to engage with us in a way that’s most convenient for them.”

Landing this national chain is significant because it likely puts Postmates into unique position to provide users with access to things that they’ll want quickly from a store that’s probably near them. Just look around you and chances are that a Walgreens or a Duane Reade store is nearby.

Users need to just open up the Postmates app like normal and place an order. They can order toiletries, toothpaste, hair care products, band-aids, over-the-counter drugs, and even groceries from their local store. However, not everything is probably available to be picked up by a courier such as prescription drugs and other items that require you to physically be present.

Postmate’s drugstore on-demand will be available 24/7 and can be accessed right from the iOS and Android app.
