PlayStation 4 gamers now get the chance to go to jail … then figure a way to break out.

The Escapists, a light-hearted indie prison-break simulator by construction worker-turned-game developer Chris Davis, is getting a PS4 release. Already out on Xbox One and PC, The Escapists is coming to Sony’s console “soon,” according to publisher Team 17. Davis funded the game’s development with $10,000 that he raised on Kickstarter, having originally asked for just $4,000, and he’s brought back a dead game genre in the process.

This version of The Escapists comes completely out of the blue — there’s been no mention of it before. It’s a treat for PS4 owners, though, given the generally positive critical reception that the game has received.

GamesBeat’s own Jay Henningsen awarded The Escapists 90/100 back in February, saying, “Gamers looking for a cerebral puzzler with a high replay value would be well-advised to check it out. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more enjoyable prison experience.”
