PlayStation Network is down as Call of Duty beta starts (update: fixed)

Update: PSN is back up and running, and the Call of Duty beta is live.

I hope you weren’t looking to engage in an infinite amount of warfare because Sony’s gaming service isn’t working.

PlayStation Network is down for many people on PlayStation 4. Players have taken to Twitter and other forums to complain about the outage, and Sony has confirmed on its status site that its gaming and social features are not functioning properly. This interruption is preventing players from logging into games, the PlayStation Store, and video apps like Netflix and Amazon Video.

“You may have some difficulty launching games, applications, or online features,” reads the PSN status page. “Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience.”

This outage comes as publisher Activision has launched the beta for Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare. Anyone who preordered that game has access on PlayStation 4, and many have hopped online today to download the test.

PSN is going through a rough patch in terms of reliability. This is the fifth time the service has gone offline for a larger number of people since August 26. Sony seemingly improved the stability of PSN following a week-long outage during the 2014 winter holidays as the result of a cyberattack, but now some of that progress is backsliding.
