PlayStation Network is down again for many

PlayStation Network isn’t up and running for a lot of gamers right now.

Sony’s online gaming service is experiencing an intermittent outage again. PlayStation console owners on social media are complaining about connectivity issues and errors that are preventing them from logging into PSN. This is also causing problems for people trying to boot into games and others who are trying to use video services like Netflix and PlayStation Vue. PSN went down on September 1, and now it is once again offline for a lot of people just five days later. This comes after a separate PSN issue that prevented players from logging on in late August.

Sony has confirmed the problem on Twitter.

The company has updated its status page to say this is an account issue.

“You may have some difficulty signing in or creating an account on PlayStation Network,” reads the message. “Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience.”

PlayStation Network experienced another outage August 26 that affected a number of Sony’s console customers. In that case, the company updated the status page and got to work on fixing the problem within around three hours.

This outage is preventing players from booting up online multiplayer games like Destiny and Call of Duty: Black Ops III. It is also interrupting the beta for publisher Electronic Arts’ new military shooter Battlefield 1, which runs through the weekend.

While this is the second interruption to service for PSN in as many weeks, the company has done a fine job of improving the reliability of its network. In 2015, the service was down for extended periods of time on an almost monthly basis. In 2016, however, outages for PSN (and Xbox Live) are far more rare.
