PlayStation Network is down

Some gamers are encountering issues trying to connect to Sony’s gaming service today.

PlayStation Network is down for some, according to complaints from gamers on social media and internet forums. This outage is widespread and affecting gamers around the world. Connection errors are causing difficulties with matchmaking, getting logged into the PSN service, and booting up games. Many people are also having problems watching videos on apps like Netflix and YouTube.

Sony confirmed the issues on its status page and its AskPlayStation Twitter account.

“You may have some difficulty launching games, applications, or online features,” Sony explained. “Our engineers are working to resolve the issue as soon as possible, and we thank you for your patience.”

The service has had a rocky record over the last two months. Sony’s gaming network went offline on August 26, September 6, and September 13. Prior to this series of outages, the company had many months of solid performance with little if any downtime. Interestingly, Sony announced on August 22 that it is raising the price of PSN to $60 per year starting. That took effect September 22.
