The people wanted more Psychonauts, and they’re going to it.

Psychonauts 2 finished its crowdfunding campaign on Fig today. The sequel to the 2005 platformer raised $3,829,024. The goal was $3.3 million goal. Crowdfunding is only a part of developer Double Fine’s plan to raise money to make the sequel, which it estimates will cost between $10 million and $13.5 million. The rest of the funding will come from Double Fine itself and an unspecified external partner.

Fig differs from other crowdfunding sites like Kickstarter in that it allows equity investing, which means contributors can actually earn a profit based on revenue earned by the game.

Development on Psychonauts 2 will take a while. The game won’t release until 2018. In the meantime, the PlayStation 2 version of the original is coming to the PlayStation 4 this spring, and a virtual reality Psychonauts game should hit PlayStation VR later this year.
