Razer’s DeathAdder gaming mouse gets an Elite upgrade

Razer’s beloved gaming mouse is getting a few key tweaks.

The PC hardware company announced the DeathAdder Elite mouse is coming for $60 in October. It is available now for preorder on Razer’s store, or you can grab it from Best Buy as early as October 2. The Elite gets a huge boost to its optical sensor that tracks 16,000 dots per inch and 450 inches per second. Put simply, the DeathAdder is better than ever at accurately interpreting your hand motions.

Razer claims the DeathAdder Elite has the highest resolution accuracy ever recorded for a gaming mouse. All of the tech crammed into the device is capable of matching your inputs with 99.4 percent accuracy.

“We’ve improved just about everything on the Razer DeathAdder Elite,” Razer chief executive Min-Liang Tan said in a statement.

The mouse retains its iconic look, but Razer worked to improve comfort with rubber side grips, a texturized scroll wheel, and center-positioned sensitivity buttons. The company is also bringing its Razer Mechanical Mouse Switches, which it co-developed with switch-design company Omrom, into the DeathAdder. This will give the mouse faster response times and more durability.

Razer has expanded its product line a ton since it first debuted the DeathAdder in 2006. It now has a line of audio-video recording hardware as well as keyboards, headsets, and even laptops. But the company’s reputation still largely depends on the popularity of the DeathAdder among serious League of Legends, Dota 2, and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive players.

With the Elite, Razer is aiming to maintain that reputation while also giving its long-time fans lots of reasons to upgrade.
