Razer’s Kraken gets 7.1 V2 makeover with 50mm drivers and unibody aluminum frame

Esports pros have a new headset to consider.

Razer has updated its Kraken audio headset in a pair of V2 models featuring a ton of new features targeted at competitive gamers. The Kraken Pro V2 is available for preorder now at $80, and it comes with a better microphone for communication, 50mm drivers for more robust sound, and updated aluminum-body design. The Kraken 7.1 V2, however, is a beefed up version of the Kraken with surround-sound support and an active noise-canceling microphone. The 7.1 is going on sale soon for $100. Both versions of the Kraken V2 will ship worldwide in October.

The refresh for the Kraken comes as Razer is rolling out a number of new products in time for the holidays. That includes spruced up laptops, new gaming keyboards, and a big revision to its legendary DeathAdder mouse. The Kraken isn’t even the only headset Razer has hitting the market right now. As one of the top gaming-hardware design and manufacture companies, Razer wants to constantly remind fans that it is always innovating.

When it comes to the Kraken, that means providing something ideal for gaming pros and those who want an entry into the surround-sound experience. With the Kraken Pro V2’s featureset, Razer is promising a comfortable headset that is lightweight but also capable of providing crisp audio in and out.

“We designed the Razer Kraken V2 headsets to deliver the best eSports-focused experience,” Razer cofounder and chief executive officer Min-Liang Tan said in a statement. “Pro-gaming athletes of today will excel thanks to the Razer Kraken V2’s powerful 50mm custom-tuned drivers, highly durable unibody aluminum frame, and redesigned ergonomics for maximum comfort.”
