Rdio launches on Windows Phone 8.1 with support for Cortana and Live Tiles

Music streaming service Rdio is renewing its vows with Windows Phone, releasing a new version of its app for the operating system.

The update, version 8.1, includes two major updates: Live Tiles and support for Cortana, the artificial intelligence-based assistant. The new app will have both the free and ad-supported service, as well as its unlimited paid subscription tier.

This isn’t Rdio’s first time on the Windows Phone, as it previously had an app for Windows Phone 7 and 8. The new app is taking the basic paid music-streaming it offered and filling out the experience with Cortana and Live Tiles, the operating system’s widget-like interface that brings up various features. It’s also now supporting the free tier of streaming which wasn’t available in the previous apps.

Other music streaming services have already started to support Windows 8.1, such as Spotify, which launched its app in August.

Rdio for Windows Phone 8.1 is now available in the Windows Phone Store worldwide.
