It’s likely that Square Enix will officially announce this date when its Final Fantasy event kicks off tonight at 7 p.m. Pacific (10 p.m. Eastern) on Twitch. Final Fantasy is a role-playing game where players typically go on epic adventures featuring fantasy and sci-fi themes. It is one of Square Enix’s most important franchises, and this latest entry in the series represents a chance for the publisher to reestablish itself as a dominant force in the console space. The worldwide gaming market generates $99.3 billion in spending, but many of Square Enix’s fellow Japanese game makers have shifted almost entirely to the mobile space. The success of Final Fantasy XV will likely determine a great deal about how the publisher approaches console gaming in the future.
