Rightware designs a futuristic dashboard for Maserati concept car

Software maker QNX Technology will be showing off a concept car based on a current Maserati model at the 2015 International CES, the big tech trade show in Las Vegas this week. And Rightware has provided a cool-looking dashboard as part of a modern user interface for the connected car.

The Maserati Quattroporte GTS concept car has a real-time QNX operating system, a Qualcomm system-on-chip processor, and a dashboard that is retrofitted to the luxury car’s stylings. Car electronics systems are getting a wholesale makeover as consumers demand full-blown connected computers in their modern automobiles. That’s been a major theme of the last few years at CES, and so the concept car isn’t so nutty.

Besides the Rightware dashboard, the car has a bunch of sensor systems installed for a camera, ultrasonic sound, and a remote laser-based sensor system known as Lidar. Maserati itself hasn’t endorsed the project, but the QNX and Rightware teams wanted to show off what they could do on their own. The dashboard is based on Rightware Kanzi, a user interface that is used in 10 different cars already.

The dashboard has real-time 3D graphics, ambient lighting for warnings, and a layering of information in both 2D and 3D. Espoo, Finland-based Rightware started as a part of graphics benchmarking firm Futuremark in 2004. Its goal was to create user interfaces for mobile computing. The company spun out in 2009 to focus on its user interface software business.
