Samsung acknowledged that it is conducting a “thorough inspection” of its supply of Galaxy Note7 smartphones following reports this week of battery explosions. However, the company declined to comment on whether it would implement a recall as some in the media have posited, nor did it specify the particular issues that caused a shipping delay with Samsung’s newest phone model.
“In response to questions on Galaxy Note7, we are conducting a thorough inspection. We will share the findings as soon as possible. Samsung is fully committed to providing the highest quality products to our consumers,” a company spokesperson said in a statement provided to VentureBeat.
Introduced in August, the Note7 is the latest iteration of the popular productivity phone, bringing the best of the Galaxy S7 line with an improved stylus, iris scanner, and more. Preorders began on August 3 and the phone officially went on sale on August 19. So while some people have received the device, others may experience a bit of a wait while Samsung sorts through this mess and checks to make sure that nothing is wrong.
People have posted images and videos on social media of the Note7 phone charred after claiming that it had caught fire. South Korean media outlets have claimed that Samsung would soon announce a plan to recall the affected devices and replace the batteries. However, as mentioned earlier, the company declined to comment.

Naturally this comes at an inconvenient time. Apple is scheduled to perhaps introduce the latest iPhone at an event on September 7, which would take a bit of wind out of Samsung’s sails in the best of times.
