LAS VEGAS — At the 2014 International CES event, Samsung debuted a new curved 105-inch ultrahigh-definition television set that it claims is the world’s largest.
The set, branded as the U9000, features a curved screen that should add depth to the picture — (something that 3D haters will probably be very happy about). At one of the world’s largest tech trade shows, Samsung’s Joe Stinziano said the company led in sales of 4K TV sets (UHD TV) last year, and its latest model hopes to continue that trend.

The line will tentatively hit retail stores later this year.
Samsung is also making sure there’s plenty of 4K video content available through a partnership with digital video seller MGO, plus support from Amazon Prime, Comcast, and Netflix.

It’s an impressive commitment by Samsung for 4K, but one that still seems pretty far away from actually being successful. As VentureBeat has pointed out many times in the past, 4K TVs are still expensive, and you need access to a reliable high-speed Internet connection to really get the full benefit. I highly doubt even the lowest priced model of new UHD TVs will be affordable enough to change the current market.
