SAN FRANCISCO — Samsung Electronics today announced the release of its Samsung Architecture for Multimodal Interactions consumer health SDK, dubbed SAMI, and unveiled its Simband health wearable device to an audience of developers.
The electronics giant will be releasing its SDK to developers today so that they can begin building apps that will connect to the new platform and run on the Simband device.

Unlike Apple’s HealthKit, SAMI is more focused on collecting insights that health providers could use to improve care.
Samsung also announced major new partners here at the conference, including insurers like Aetna and Cigna, as well as provider network Humana. Samsung has also been working with Kaiser Permanente on ways to make data collected by the Simband and the SAMI platform useful to physicians.
