Samsung wants to beat Apple’s mystery health product to the punch

In a highly predictable turn of events, Samsung is gearing up to launch a new health product or service — right before Apple gets the chance to (maybe) release a health-related product of its own.

“A new conversation about health is about to begin,” reads Samsung’s event invitation for May 28, Engadget reports. That date falls just before Apple’s WWDC developer conference, which starts June 2.

Although it now appears Apple will focus on OS X during the event, Apple is also reportedly developing numerous health products, including a “Healthbook” service, which is expected to collect fitness and health metrics within a Passbook-style app.

Samsung is not new to health-tech — the firm’s Galaxy Gear Fit smartwatch counts as its latest, less-than-revolutionary product in that space.

Although the Galaxy Gear smartwatch first debuted in September 2013, Samsung’s products are often considered reactive in the tech industry. Just about every Apple rumor seemingly leads to a similarly described Samsung product, from the long-awaited Apple TV revamp to the iWatch wearable.
